Amazon marketing refused my ad for Baby Countdown on the grounds that the cover is “too provocative.”

E.B. Brown’s fabulous collage of the July Readers Rewards books. Imagine entering a magic portal to all these worlds! I did, so the collage is a live gateway to the goodies. The current August ebook deals are at the top, and when you make it down to July, many of those deals are still good, too. I went wild and filled my Kindle Fire with many new books. Enjoy!

Excerpt from Baby Countdown:

I wiped my arm across my face, needing to cut out the sight of her. It came to me, the whole thing, right then. Her vulnerable, beautiful body so close to me I could damned near feel her warmth and smell her. The answer to my problem. What kind of sick bastard was I? Well, I had to do something, and this could be it.

“You will?” She eyed me, obviously expecting more of a fight. She’d come loaded for bear.

“Yeah. I sure will. There’s just a matter of payment.” I smiled, not my nicest smile.

“Of course.” She blinked. “How much?”

“It’s not a matter of how much, it’s a matter of what. A special thing you can do for me. Super special.”

Her brows rose. “Why do I think I’m not going to like this?” She said it as though she was delivering a line to onlookers. She looked up at the ceiling, possibly praying for patience.
She wasn’t making this easy. I looked at my boots, then right into her eyes.

She took a step back.

“Here’s the deal. You have my baby. That will be payment in full.”

Her mouth dropped open. Her eyes widened to circles. She stood dead still.

“You are joking.” She swallowed. Two spots of red bloomed on her cheeks. Not embarrassment this time. Some other emotion. She looked pretty upset. Her mouth tightened. She took one step toward me, hands fisted. Her gaze went from my chest to the top of my head, perhaps noting that I was a foot taller than her and probably outweighed her by a hundred pounds, most of it muscle. “You are the most messed up, infuriating, probably psychopathic or at least sociopathic…”

I raised my hands. “Come on, Lela. Easy now.” She was breathing so hard in anger her breasts rose and fell like waves. I didn’t want to have to put my hand on her forehead to hold her off while she took a swing at me. “You want that bag of manure taken care of. I can do that for you. Easy. And I’m the only man around who can,” I drawled. I wasn’t egotistical, it was just a fact. “The cops aren’t going to touch him and he has damned near everyone in his pocket. I don’t kiss his ass. I don’t need to. I’d as soon put him out of business—permanently—as look at him. I can do that for you.”

She stood there glaring at me but her hands let go of punching mode.

“Only problem is, you’re crazy.” Her eyes flashed.

Damn, she was beautiful when she got all fiery.

Thanks for reading, and thanks to all my readers who take time to write reviews! It means a lot to me.

Two more reviews and Baby Countdown qualifies for submission to promoters that require 10 Amazon reviews to even consider a book ad. Whew!

Good thing I had no idea how much administrative work is involved in publishing. I would have run screaming from the room. But now I’m hooked.

I’m promising myself some days of nothing but exploring Mayan ruins next month to blow off weeks of working six and a half to seven days a week. I might even sleep in….
